SEN and EYFS Inclusion

Special Educational Needs Meaning of it?

The 1996 Education Act defines a child as having Special Educational Needs “if they have a learning difficulty which calls for special educational provision to be made for them”. Children have a learning difficulty if they:

  1. have a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of children of the same age
  2. have a disability which prevents or hinders them from making use of educational facilities of a kind generally provided for children of the same age

Codes of practice- See Policies and Health Considerations for guidelines.  Kalma adheres to SEN guidelines set by the department of Education.

Early Years Foundation Stage meaning of it?

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is the statutory framework that sets the standards that all Early Years providers must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. It promotes teaching and learning to ensure children are ready for school and gives children the broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundation for good future progress through school and life.

Codes of practice? Kalma  uses various methods to incorporate Early Years into all of its classes.  Using language such as counting and singing, using sensory props to ensure stimulation of senses are developed, using Yoga inspired stretches to ensure health development and playing music.  We ensure our children are kept safe and healthy at all times, and learn a broad range of skills every session which will help them develop.  Kalma  teachers should keep up to date with EYFS framework set out by the government and by following lesson plans this ensures all sessions have EYFS firmly rooted.  A yearly CPD will include EYFS and ideas used in sessions encouraged so that we maintain EYFS as a standard.
