The Setting
It is extremely important for KalmaMamas that you choose a space where the parents will be comfortable. It needs to be warm and cosy, allowing you to dim the lights for extended relaxation. The set-up is that a mat is set out for each Mama, but with the addition of two cushions for them to use if they want to. Blocks and yoga balls can also be used where appropriate.
A big part of these classes is forming a support network of ladies going through similar experiences so encourage them to share things as much as they like.
Mats should be placed in a circle where space permits all facing the centre around your chakra blanket. This allows everyone to see and makes a cosy setting where everyone feels equal. Cushions can be placed on the mats or in the centre for students to help themselves. Socks and shoes off. The use of candles where a venue permits can be used but please ask before use.
When you run the classes is up to you. Evening classes tend to work well for the Mamas who are working full time. However, day time classes have been run as well and the uptake is good. Daytime also works well for the Postnatal Programme. If you can run them via Children’s Centres this can be a great way to advertise.
Weekend sessions and workshops can also be ran whereby you can offer the experience to fathers. A couple can enjoy relaxation and the pregnancy together.
