Appendix B The Chakra System
The Chakra System represents the flow of energy through the body. Chakra comes from the Sanskrit word for wheel, and each part of the system represents a vortex of energy in a different part of the body.
During pregnancy, the weight of the baby pulls the lower back forward bringing the spine out of alignment. This means that the space in which the root, sacral and solar chakras can resonate is reduced and they are constantly stimulated by the foetus. This can create many changes in mood. Once the baby is born, these chakras have a lot of room to spin and the stimulation is reduced which can lead to post natal depression. By understanding the chakra system and how to work with it, pregnant and post natal women can learn to modify these effects.
