Partner Work

Benefits: Practicing poses together is great for social interaction and teaching children consideration. Partner work is beneficial for both children; it is not a case of one person helping the other. Often, these are the poses described above, but using a partner to deepen the stretch.

Partner work can be suited to all age groups, whether it be school aged children working with one another or a mother and baby, yoga is very inclusive, it is for all children regardless of their physical capabilities, background or age.

Practising poses together is fantastic for social interaction and teaching children to be considerate to one another. Partner work requires the use of communication skills, to talk and listen to each other and help perfect one another in their pose. The building of trust between peers, for example asking to go back to back in to chair pose, requires the trust of both parties. Working alongside a partner can help deepen a stretch as well as teaching a patience and consideration to one another, to take care in themselves and their partner to not over stretch.

Caution: Remind children to be considerate of each other and not to overstretch themselves or their partner.
