Introduction
This teaching guide should be used alongside your training to deliver Junior classes. It also has advice and guidance on how to run the classes, and how to market to schools.
Life today seems to be very fast paced and children seem to be facing so many more daily challenges leaving them feeling stressed and anxious. With technology being at the forefront of every household, children have easy access to social media and all that comes with it, such as body shaming, cyber bullying and the comparison to others ‘picture perfect persona’. This can be very intense adding stress, anxiety and giving children low self esteem.
Yoga can help children to take time to themselves to relax, unwind and de-stress. The different poses we teach children within a kids yoga class can help strengthen their bodies and develop their body awareness as well as improving balance, coordination and flexibility, leading children on to other sporting activities. The breathing and relaxation element of yoga will allow children to focus their minds, keep calm and aid concentration, allowing them to ready themselves for school lessons and / or exams. Practicing yoga together with the family or with friends will help children interact with their peers through partner work, sharing thoughts and games, overall building a child’s confidence.
Teaching yoga to children can be challenging and many times a lesson plan alone is not enough. Consideration should be given to the selection of props used in sessions, music, songs and language used. Personality of a teacher is a huge benefit in these classes and being able to keep the class engaged. This will also come with practice and time. Using the element of surprise in classes with stories and games can help to break it up.
Upon completion of all units and the final quiz you will be issued a certificate.
