Family Yoga

Family yoga is the concept of providing a service to the whole family so all ages can come and take part.  Our family yoga sessions mix elements of both junior and toddler yoga to include all the family in this session.

Families can do yoga together with their little ones which adds the benefit of lots of bonding and encouraging strengthening a family connection. Through fun and healthy exercise, we bring together lots of other families creating the opportunities for socialising with other children and parents.  It’s a dedicated family time in which everyone can leave feeling as if they have impacted in their health and well-being as parent together stretches are incorporated too.

Parents are encouraged to become role models inside our family sessions, for healthy exercise through yoga, mindfulness and relaxation techniques.  With the added benefit of being able to bring all your children you can engage in the full family yoga experience!  Session plans should be written according to the ages you have booked on, and should centre around a theme, story or game.  There are lots of stretches and together stretches which can be adapted to all ages to suit.  Considerations should be thought around the stories and games to take in to account the different ages which maybe in.  Lots of together stretches should be included and parents should be given the opportunity to perform some one off stretches so that their children can mimic them.

Suggested together stretches can be:

Lizard on a rock

Row the boat

Flips

Wheel barrows

Superman

Flying toddlers

Chairs

King of castle

Use plans from juniors and toddlers to mix up sessions and include stretches that could be easily mimicked or parents can support their children in such as:

Warriors

Butterfly

Lotus legs

Wide leg stretch

Tree stork superman

Downward dog

Cobras

Have fun with these sessions and the key to successful ones is planning!

In addition to Family Yoga, you could offer Holiday sessions. These could be themed, and you can introduce lots of different activities to support the children’s learning of yoga. Some examples include colour in your own chakra worksheets, yoga origami, make your own yoga pose cards, make own props to use with breathing exercises such as a spinning wheel.
