Using large hula hoops place them at either side of the mats and then place mini craft pompoms inside scattered about. Ask the children to take their socks off and encourage them to use their toes to pick up the pompoms. For younger children this may be easier with parents helping them. You can also scatter them outside of the hoop asking them to put them back in with their feet.

This can be introduced from crawling and is a great creative tool to keep toddlers engagement. Choose a book you can freely adapt the poses to in this section and as reading get the children to act out the poses with the support of their parents.
Pedestal/Air cushions/balance boards
Use pedestals or/and balance cushions for balance. You can have stations around the room and focus the session on balance. The parent always assists the toddler onto any balancing prop. The pedestals position as close as they allow helping toddler to the stand parent is behind supporting around chest. Teacher holds feet to stand. Encourage toddlers arms out open aside them if good balance parent lightly hold. Parent helps toddler to balance cushion feet about 10cm apart parent supports around chest once child has balance established parent can support by holding arms then hands eventually lighter hold.

Hook it around their feet position feet slightly apart as if sat in wide leg stretch and get them pulling it as if rowing a boast. Toddlers can sit in a circle everyone holds on to a piece of the opposite persons Lycra in a big rowing boat. Caution must be told to parents never to let the child directly have the band themselves this is parent led activity. Teachers ensure the bands are collected in after use. No bands over the top half a child body.

Using yoga blocks, felt squares or cushions these should be laid out about 10cm apart as if mimicking stepping stones. Parents should help toddlers by holding arms of hands behind them to guide them to step block to block. Younger toddlers encourage coordinating one foot in front of other but don’t rush them over. The blocks can be used individually for balancing upon or upon the child’s feet whilst they are lay on their back.
Block Balancing
The toddler upon their backs lay in front of the parent ask the child to raise their legs, feet together, facing the ceiling. Using the yoga block, place it upon the child’s feet asking them to stay as still as a tree, count for 3-5 seconds letting the block sit upon the feet. This can be done with the child sitting spine to parents chest or child and parent facing and balance the block upon the parent and the child’s head again balancing for 3-5 seconds. Toddlers can also practice tree stork superman upon the block and simple mountain pose whilst parents support.
