Special Educational Needs (SEN) Policy and Procedures

Special Educational Needs Meaning of it?

The 1996 Education Act defines a child as having Special Educational Needs “if they have a learning difficulty which calls for special educational provision to be made for them”. Children have a learning difficulty if they:

  1. have a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of children of the same age
  2. have a disability which prevents or hinders them from making use of educational facilities of a kind generally provided for children of the same age

Codes of practice- (See also Health Considerations for guidelines).

Kalma Baby adheres to SEN guidelines set by the department of Education and has a duty of care teaching to our qualifications and to the level of experience and physical capacity of their children.  We do practice adhering in line with guidelines of SEN codes of practice.  SEN children or young adults may have physical disabilities, speech and language difficulties, and learning difficulties, sensory impairment (hearing or visual) conditions such as autism, social, emotional and mental health needs, or mixture of the above.  Kalma Baby will try to provide a safe, stimulating and supportive learning environment.  Should teachers wish to work specifically with children with SEN a Yoga for SEN children must be taken.  The SEN code of practice gives guidance about providing for children with special educational needs. All maintained schools, early education settings which receive government funding. Local education authorities, health trusts, social services departments, and the SEN and disability tribunal must, by law, have regard to the SEN code. The regulations in the back of the SEN code are also law and must be followed.
